Designed to provide a, “cross-curricular tool which helps practitioners to observe, document and accelerate the ways bilingual pupils start to use English as a tool for learning in school, then continue to develop their use of English through their subject areas. ” NASSEA, 2015
Previously, we accessed a continuum of learners’ steps to accessing the curriculum. The new framework builds on the initial scale yet we see:
1. The removal of national curriculum levels and alignment to the CEFR (Common European Framework for References for Languages)
2. Language learning steps divided into EYFS, KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4.
3. A suggested assessment grid for assessing EAL across different subjects.
4. Suggested exit criteria.
These, as well as some other interesting complimentary resources.
